This page is a general overview of Lisbon Central School policies that is intended to serve as a summary of timely topics concerning students and their parents. A more detailed explanation of school policies can be found in the Lisbon Central School Student and Family Handbook. |

ATTENDANCE POLICY - Connecticut State Law requires that all students between the ages of 7 and 16 years attend school on a regular basis. It is expected that attendance at school be reinforced by the parent or legal guardian. Excessive absences will definitely be considered in decisions concerning student retention. |

ABSENCES - It is very important that the parents/guardians call Lisbon Central School each day the child is absent to explain why they are absent. On the first day back from an absence the student is expected to bring a note explaining the reason for the absence. Should a child be absent 5 or more days, then a doctor’s note will be required before the child may return to school. |

STUDENT APPEARANCE - Students will be expected to keep themselves well-groomed and neatly dressed at all times. Any form of dress which is considered contrary to good hygiene, distractive or disruptive to the purpose of the school will not be permitted. Shorts are considered acceptable attire at LCS within guidelines. Revealing tops and shirts displaying alcoholic beverages, drugs, obscene or questionable print will not be permitted. Hats, headbands, bandanas, team jackets and overcoats are not permitted in the corridors, classrooms or cafeteria during regular school hours. |

HARASSMENT and STUDENT BEHAVIOR - We guarantee each student the right to attend school in a safe environment. Any continued harassment behavior will result in administrative intervention. Administration will usually make parental requests for assistance in managing their child’s behavior. Continued behavior may result in suspension or other forms of removal from the school environment. |

VISITING LCS - Members of the community and other interested persons are welcome and strongly encouraged to visit the school. All visitors must register at the front office. The visit must not hinder the educational program. Expressions of disapproval and constructive criticism are to be channeled to either school administration or the Board of Education. Loitering on school grounds is not permitted. |
DISMISSAL - Any child being picked up must be signed out by a parent or designated person on the emergency card. With proper identification this can be done in the front foyer at bus dismissal time in the main office. |
STUDENT HEALTH SERVICES - The nurse is on duty every day from 8:00 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. Should a student become ill or injured during the school day the parent will be notified. Should the situation require that the child be sent home and the parent cannot make arrangements to pick up the child, the administration will provide transportation and release the child to the parent or designated adult. In order for your child to take any type of prescribed medication the parent must bring the medication and the doctor’s order to the school nurse. The medication must be in a pharmacy bottle with your child’s name, name of medication, amount and times of dosage. Only with a doctor’s written order on file may the school nurse administer medication. Students may use cough drops provided a note is sent to the school nurse. |

HOMEWORK POLICY - The Lisbon Board of Education recognizes that a reasonable amount of study time is necessary for educational growth. It also recognizes that the amount of preparation should increase as the child progresses through the grades. The following time values are the Board’s recommended guidelines for the assignment of homework in minutes per day, Monday through Thursday: Grade K...10 minutes, Grade 1...15 minutes, Grade 2...20 minutes, Grade 3...30 minutes, Grade 4...45 minutes, Grade 5...60 minutes, Grade 6...75 minutes, Grade 7...90 minutes, Grade 8...90 minutes. |

PRESCHOOL TUITION POLICY - The Lisbon Central School Administration is responsible for the collection of payment, which may be sent directly to the main office. Once payment is received, it will be delivered to the Treasurer of the Town of Lisbon. Based on the Lisbon Central School calendar, monthly tuition payments will be recorded and then given to the Town Treasurer who will keep a record of payment and provide the School with a monthly report. In the event of a delinquent payment, Lisbon Central School will notify the family via telephone. If after two weeks nonpayment continues, a certified letter will be mailed to the family, requesting payment and explaining the possibility for termination in the program. Payment are due the 15th of the month for the following month. Tuition is calculated on a daily basis. A $5.00 per day tuition is the daily rate for the 5-day program. A reminder of the amount due will be sent home at least two days prior to payment. Prompt payment is necessary to keep a child’s place in the program. If payment is not received in full by the second week, the child will be terminated from the program. Parents are responsible for payments in their entirety; regardless of any days missed. |
